Monitoring vendors

Read the hosts, alerts and figures in your own Datadog or New Relic account. Termiyo does not install a monitoring agent on your hosts.

Connect your account

Datadog keys

Open Monitoring vendors, choose Datadog and select your account’s site. Supply a Datadog API key and a Datadog Application key; the keys are saved in your vault.

Read permissions

For Datadog, allow hosts_read for hosts, monitors_read for monitors and timeseries_query for memory figures. Other views need logs_read_data for logs, dashboards_read for dashboards, apm_read for application names and spans with timeseries_query for their figures, and slos_read for service levels.

New Relic key

Choose New Relic and supply a New Relic User key and the account ID. A License key cannot read the account — it only reports data in — so make a User key under Administration → API keys.

What you can read

Hosts, alerts and logs

The panel shows hosts, available CPU, memory and load figures, open alerts and the age of the reading. Read the log opens vendor logs; Keep asking polls every 5 seconds while the log pane is on screen.

Dashboards, applications and service levels

Dashboards are listed rather than drawn. A Datadog dashboard opens in your browser only when Datadog sent a full address for it; New Relic sends no address at all, so those rows have nothing to open. Applications and service levels are read on request; Datadog spans are available, but New Relic traces are not read here. Read how it is going asks for one service level’s result — on New Relic that takes the Entity GUID from the entity’s own page, attainment is calculated by Termiyo, and its remaining error budget is not shown.

Vendor agents on vault hosts

The inventory is matched to saved hostnames to show reporting status. An install line is available to copy, but Termiyo never runs it; I ran it — check reporting asks the vendor again.

Read incomplete lists carefully

Limits and missing data

Datadog reads stop at 1,000 monitors or 10,000 hosts, with a shared 45-second budget for the account reading. A stopped alert list shows how many entries were read and warns that more may be firing; an incomplete host list shows the count read and the total when known. A saved host absent from a partial list remains unknown, and an unread alert list is not an all-clear. New Relic issues stop at the first page and are marked partial when another page is available.

Check against your vendor account

Live-account compatibility is not yet verified. Check the figures and any copied install instructions against your vendor account before relying on them; permissions, product access and rate limits can leave gaps.

The optional Datadog write

Edit a monitor deliberately

Edit on a Datadog alert can change its name, notification message, priority and critical threshold, never its query. This needs monitors_write or monitors_draft_write and asks for confirmation naming the monitor and changed fields. A re-read that detects a changed monitor or cannot establish its modification time refuses the write; an edit leaves an audit row.
